Hosta 'Artist's Palette'

This seedling of H. 'Neat Splash' was registered by Bob Kuk of Kuk's Forest in Ohio in 1986. It is a medium size (17 inches high) plant with purple flowers. The leaves are moderately wavy and ovate shaped.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "The true form of 'Artist's Palette' has heavily streaked foliage, usually with a creamy white margin. If not carefully maintained, established clumps eventually become dominated by its green-centered, white-edged sport, 'Margin of Error'."

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states: "A useful pod parent for variegated seedlings. Will quickly revert to an attractive, white-margined form if not regularly divided. Very rare and expensive...unstable variegation; one season it appears with a marginal variegation, the next with streaked leaves."
