Florence Shaw
originated this cultivar as part of her "Birchwood"
series and it was registered by
The American Hosta Society in 1986. It is a large (24 inches high) mound of heavily corrugated
foliage with dense clusters of near white flowers in late June to July.
According to
The Hosta Handbook by
Mark Zilis (2000), it is "...same Hosta sieboldiana origin as 'Birchwood
Elegance', probably a sibling."
The Hostapedia by
Mark Zilis
(2009) commented that "Eldren
Minks once demonstrated the great substance of 'Birchwood
Green' by balancing a coffee cup on one of its leaves."
Similar cultivars include H. 'Birchwood Elegance' and H. 'Green Formal'.
