Hosta 'Butterfly'

Dr. Dick and Jane Ward of Ohio registered this miniature size (3 inches high by 8 inches wide) sport of H. 'Cricket' in 2012. The leaves are medium green with a greenish yellow marginal variegation. They are ovate, flat and dull on top. Medium lavender, tubular flowers bloom in July. It sets seeds but the viability is not known at the time of registration.

There could be some confusion of names here. According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009) regarding the cultivar H. 'Lucy's Breeder', "The plant, once known as "Lucy's 36-69", "Lucy's Breeder 36-69", and 'Butterfly', was utilized by Lucille Simpers in her hybridizing program." Of course, since the plant discussed on this page was registered with The American Hosta Society, it is the official hosta of this name.
