Hosta 'Caliban'

Patricia Scolnik of Breeze Hill Plant Lab in North Carolina originated this cultivar which is a sport of H. 'Sum and Substance' and it was registered on her behalf in 2009 by Kevin Walek (Hosta Registrar). It is a giant size plant about 36 inches high by 60 inches wide with muted yellow foliage that has a pale green marginal variegation. The leaves are intensely rippled, broadly ovate and slightly shiny on top. Medium lavender, bell-shaped flowers with stripes bloom from July into August.

Caliban, son of the witch Sycorax, is an important character in William Shakespeare's play The Tempest.
