This cultivar of unidentified parentage was registered in 2001 by Peter Ruh of Ohio on behalf of the originator, Dr. Shuichi Hirao of Japan. It is a small size hosta growing to 6 inches in height with a spread of 18 inches with green foliage. The leaves are dull on top and shiny on the bottom. Lavender flowers bloom from late June into July.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...known as 'Hirao Cantabi' for several years..."
