Hosta 'Dragon Fire'

A seedling of H. 'Riptide', this cultivar was registered by Bob Solberg of Green Hill Farm in North Carolina in 2005. It was originated by Wyatt Lefever of North Carolina. The plant grows into a large size hosta about 18 inches high with a spread of 48 inches. The blue-green to dark green leaves are slightly wavy, slightly corrugated and have good substance with red petioles. It bears funnel-shaped, medium purple flowers in August.

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states: "Grow at eye level to expose the purple petioles which contrast well with the bluish leaves. Moderate growth rate...Leaves larger and slightly bluer than its parent."
