Schmid (1991) states the following under the heading of H. sieboldiana 'Longipes':

"Plant is of Japanese origin. Seed was received under the name H. sieboldiana var. longipes by Frances Williams of Massachusetts from T. Sataka, Yokohoma, Japan...It is not the same plant as H. sieboldiana var longipes Matsumura (1905), so the name as applied here is illegitimate under ICBN and invalid as a cultivar name under ICNCP because of its Latin form. As a consequence Hensen (1985) renamed it H. 'Elata Fountain'..."
