Hosta 'Encore'

A hybrid of H. 'Tardiflora', this cultivar was registered in 1999 by Dr. Jim and Jill Wilkins of Michigan. The narrowly ovate foliage starts the season gold and changes to light green as the season progresses. It grows into a small size hosta about 9 inches in height with a spread of around 28 inches. From late July into August, it bears deep purple flowers on deep purple scapes.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...often reblooms in September...Two more non-registered hostas bore this name as well, one from Paul Aden of New York in the early 1980s and another that was listed as a streaked form of H. ventricosa..."

This was the official hosta of 1999 National Convention of The American Hosta Society in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
