Hosta 'Encore'

This is one of those cases where there are three hostas with the same name. Neither are currently registered with The American Hosta Society. The first one to be registered would become the "official" hosta of that name and the others would have to be renamed.

A hybrid of H. 'Tardiflora', this cultivar was registered in 1995 by Dr. Jim and Jill Wilkins of Michigan. The narrowly ovate foliage starts the season gold and changes to light green as the season progresses. It grows into a small size hosta about 9 inches in height with a spread of around 28 inches. From late July into August, it bears deep purple flowers on deep purple scapes.

This was the official hosta of 1999 National Convention of The American Hosta Society in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...often reblooms in September..."
