Hosta 'Fancy Dancer'

This is one of those cases where there are two hostas with the same name. Neither is registered with The American Hosta Society. The first one to be registered would become the "official" hosta of that name and the other would have to be renamed.

Originated by Mary Amberg of Massachusetts, this non-registered cultivar is a sport of H. 'Piedmont Special'. It is a large size hosta with green foliage. Near white flowers bloom from late June into July on scapes up to 36 inches tall.

This cultivar won the 2009 Kevin Vaughn Award at the First Look hosta competition as the best sport as chosen by the AHS Judges and the Frances Williams Award as the best sport as chosen by the Attendees.

There might be another hosta of this name. The Dutch Hosta Society's website had an article which stated, "...H. 'Fluffy' which became H. 'Fancy Dancer', a sport from H. 'Stitch in Time'..." in a caption for a photo. It is a small size hosta with unruly and curved foliage. Pale lavender flowers bloom in July.
