This cultivar is a seedling of H. 'Dorothy Benedict' which was registered in 2005 by Dr. Ed Elslager of Michigan. A semi-upright hosta, 'Gilded Cage' grows into a large size plant about 25 inches high with medium green foliage that has a yellow marginal variegation. The leaves are ovate, moderately rippled and has a moderate bloom on the bottom. Pale lavender flowers bloom in July on scapes up to 46 inches in height.
