Kevin Walek of Virginia registered this self-pollinated seedling of the species, H. pycnophylla in 2000. Growing into a medium size (16 inches high) mound, this cultivar has moderately rippled foliage that twists or curls at the tip and is ovate in shape with reddish petioles. The pale bluish lavender flowers bloom in late August to September.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "This plant would not be in existence today if not for plant tissue culture. In the late 1990s, Kevin Walek remarked to me that his only plant of 'Gilt by Association' was fully engulfed with foliar nematodes and he was ready to destroy it. I told him that, when done properly, nematode infested plants would be freed of the infection if propagated by tissue culture. He sent me his plant and the thousands of nematode free 'Gilt by Association' plants attest to the value of "TC"."
