This hybrid of H. rupifraga was originated from Dr. Shuichi Hirao of Japan and was registered by Peter Ruh of Ohio in 2001. It forms a medium size mound of light green foliage about 18 inches tall by 44 inches wide with light green foliage. The ovate shaped leaves are slightly cupped, slightly corrugated, moderately wavy and deeply folded. They are slightly shiny on top and very shiny on the bottom

Lavender flowers with white stripes bloom from late August into September on scapes 23 to 27 inches tall. It does not set seeds.

The registration materials state: "...interesting mound with pendulant flowers in profusion."

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "Peter Ruh attempted to register this plant as 'Doctor Shuichi Hirao', but that name was not allowed."
