Hosta 'Kaiapoi'

Madelon Gilligan of New Zealand registered this giant size (29 inches high by 50 inches wide) seedling of an open-pollinated H. 'Sieboldiana' in 2012. The intensely "chalky" blue-green foliage is deeply cupped, moderately corrugated, deeply wavy and has a thick petiole. Near white, tubular flowers bloom from December to January in New Zealand. This would be equivalent to about June into July in the Northern Hemisphere.

Kaiapoi is a town in the Waimakariri District of the Canterbury region, in the South Island of New Zealand.
