Species - Hosta kikutii

This is a medium sized (16 inches high) green leaved species of hosta that originated in Japan. It has a medium to fast growth rate compared to other species hostas. The leaves are shiny and narrow with lightly rippled margins. It produces pale lavender, funnel-shaped flowers in dense clusters that open in late August to September.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "It is one of the four most common species found in Japan, Hosta montana, Hosta sieboldii and Hosta longipes being the others."

According to The Hosta Handbook by Mark Zilis (2000), there are four distinct forms of Hosta kikutii including:

  1. Species - Hosta kikutii

  2. Species - Hosta kikutii caput-avis

  3. Species - Hosta kikutii leuconata

  4. Species - Hosta kikutii yakusimensis

Another form is Hosta kikutii tosana.
