This cultivar is a sport of H. 'Ryan's Big One' which was registered by Walters Gardens, Inc. of Michigan and Clarence (C.H.) Falstad, III of Michigan in 1993. It forms a large size mound of blue-green foliage with a chartreuse marginal variegation that develops later in the summer.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...has not made much impact in the nursery trade."

We wonder if the namesake of this cultivar is the person who is also the namesake in the cultivar 'Ryan's Big One'.
