Hosta 'Makkou'

This non-registered cultivar was originated by Shinya Fukatsu of Japan. According to an article by the originator in The British Hosta and Hemerocallis Society Journal (Autumn 2019) this is a large size hosta which is a hybrid of H. venusta with upright, green foliage with a very narrow white marginal variegation. The narrow leaves come to a distinct point with dark purple spots on the petioles. The flowers are lavender and stand well above the foliage.

Another seedling from the same cross is named H. 'Nagasu'. They are similar with 'Nagasu' having glossy green leaf backs while 'Makkou' has white leaf backs. 'Nagasu' has longer petioles and stands more upright than 'Makkou'.

This is the name for sperm whales.
