Hosta 'Microchip'

Introduced by Dr. Ralph (Herb) Benedict of Michigan this miniature size cultivar has a "...H. venusta background...sometimes listed as 'Micro Chip'..." according to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009).

Similar cultivars include H. 'Tiny Tears'.

Note: This is one of many named but non-registered cultivars that were observed in Herb Benedict's garden in Michigan and later mentioned in The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009) or the Hosta Library.

Herb was noted for not selling his hostas but some did make it into the market through those who received them as gifts or bought plants which Herb donated to an AHS auction. The only specimen of many of Herb's  plants, however, existed exclusively in his garden and are not available anywhere else. Herb  passed away in 2004. Rod Kuenster of Iowa discovered many of Herb's plants in the garden of Audrey and Fred Wilson. He has recently registered over 70 of these cultivars on Herb's behalf.
