Hosta 'Mirth'

Originated by Nagao Matsubayashi of Japan but registered in 2001 by Peter and Jean Ruh of Ohio on his behalf, this cultivar is a hybrid of H. 'Happiness' (Japan). A slow growing, small size plant, it grows to a height of around 8 inches with a spread of about 13 inches.

The leaves are light green with darker veins with a medium green marginal variegation. Its foliage is ovate, slightly wavy, slightly twisted, slightly folded and dull on top with a deeply curled tip. Tubular, pale lavender flowers with purple stripes bloom on scapes about 16 inches tall bloom from August into September.

According to the registration materials: "...unusual variegation; green veins..."
