Hosta 'New Moon'

This is one of those cases where there are two hostas with the same name. One is registered and, therefore, the "official" version of H. 'New Moon' while the other is a non-registered plant and needs to be renamed to avoid further confusion.

This sport of H. 'Gold Standard' was registered by Ran Lydell of Cooks Nursery and Eagle Bay Gardens in New York in 1995. It grows into a large size hosta about 20 inches high with a spread of around 48 inches. The leaves are dark green with a very narrow yellow medial (center) variegation. It bears pale lavender flowers from late July into August.

Hosta Helper will call this plant 'New Moon' (Lydell).

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), Lucille Simpers of Indiana originated a plant by this name which was displayed at the Wade and Gatton Nurseries in Ohio. After the Lydell plant was registered, Van Wade changed the name to 'Simpers New Moon'.

Hosta Helper will call this plant 'New Moon' (Simpers).
