This cultivar is a seedling selection that is part of Van Wade's American Indian Series of hostas. This tribe of native Americans called the area west of the Missouri River and between the Platte and Niobrara Rivers their home territory. There is some evidence that they once ranged as far east as the Atlantic coast, but, as Europeans moved westward, so did the Omaha before them.
