Hosta 'Purple Grape'

Originated by Donghuan Liu of Beijing, China, this cultivar was registered by Glenn Herold of Illinois in 2021 as an open-pollinated seedling of H. 'Volcano Island'. It is a fast growing, small to medium size (10 inches high by 18 inches wide) hosta with strong yellow green (144A RHS Colour Chart) foliage. The ovate leaves are moderately cupped and slightly shiny on top with purple red petioles. It bears medium purple, tubular flowers that bloom on purple red scapes from August into September and sets viable seeds in purple pods.

According to the Registration materials: "Erect red scapes hold pinkish purple flowers with long racemes. Evenly spaced, horizontally held leaves provide a nice view of the red petioles."
