Hosta 'Red Rover'

This fast growing, medium size (12 inches high by 14 inches wide) cultivar is a seedling of H. 'Katsuragawa Beni' × H. 'Uncle Albert' was originated by Jeff Moore of Wisconsin and registered by Jim Schwarz of Jim's Hostas of Iowa (now owned by Uniquely Hostas of Wisconsin) in 2015. It has medium green foliage that is slightly wavy and slightly shiny on top. Medium lavender, tubular flowers bloom from mid-August into September. According to the registration material, 'Red Rover' has "...noticeable veins and maroon-speckled stems."

Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled, A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term beni as red or rouge and the the term -gawa or -kawa as river.
