Hosta 'Red Sox'

This hybrid of H. longipes hypoglauca x H. 'Maruba Iwa' is a sibling of H. 'Cinnamon Sticks'. It was originated by Roy Herold of Massachusetts and registered on his behalf by Kevin Walek (Hosta Registrar) in 2009. It is a medium size hosta about 15 inches high with a spread of around 24 inches. The dark green foliage has purple red petioles and is shiny on top. Light purple flowers bloom from late September into October.

Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled, A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term iwa as rock, Iwa Gibōshi or H. longipes and the term maruba as round leaf or round-leafed.
