Hosta 'Rhino Tuff'

This cultivar was listed on the MyHostas Database website. Originated by Don Rawson of Michigan, this non-registered cultivar is a sport of H. 'Rhino Hide'. It has tough, narrow, very thick, blue-green foliage. The leaves are cupped, heavily corrugated, very broadly ovate, unruly and deeply lobed at the base. This slow growing hosta should form an upright, medium size mound about 10 inches high and 34 inches wide. Near white flowers bloom from late June into July followed by viable seeds.

H. 'Rhino Tuff' is a tetraploid plant with a ploidy rating (4-4-4). Also, about 1 in 5 leaves have one deep lobe so the blade resembles a mitten shape...which is somehow appropriate since it originated in Michigan's lower peninsula.
