The correct name for this narrow
leaf, medium size (14 inches high) plant from
Japan has been the subject of some conjecture.
It has a slim, white margin with light purple flowers opening in
August.
The Genus Hosta by G. Schmid
(1991) gave it the cultivar name listed here while
The Hosta Handbook by
Mark Zilis (2000) feels that it should be
only Hosta rohdeifolia
as a true species.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis
(2009), "...the plant grown as H.
helonoides albo-picta...was actually H.
rohdeifolia. In the ground, it has a rapid growth rate and
is a great choice as an edging plant."
Similar cultivars include H. calliantha, H. 'Little
Missy', H. 'Nishiki Akikaze', H. rectifolia 'Nakai' and
H. 'White Border'.
Sports include H. 'Pierre's Find' and H. 'Sugar Pie'.
