Hosta 'Special Item'

An H. 'Fortunei Gigantea' seedling, this cultivar was registered in 1999 by Peter Ruh of Ohio on behalf of the originator, Eunice V. Fisher of Wisconsin who introduced it in 1961. A large size (19 inches high by 34 inches wide) plant with leaves that have a deep lobe at the base and a long, thin tip. Pale lavender flowers from late June into July followed by seeds in blue-green pods.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), this cultivar "...has become a rare commodity in collections and that is a shame. It offers attractive blue-green foliage and a good show of flowers in July...It is one of the few blue-leaved seedlings to originate out of 'Fortunei Gigantea'."
