This plant of unidentified parentage was developed in the 1940s and was registered by Peter Ruh of Ohio in 1989 on behalf of the originator, Carl Starker of Oregon. It forms a large size mound 27 inches high with a spread of 53 inches. The foliage is heavily rippled and is green to dark green with a gold medial (center) variegation. Its lavender flowers bloom in July.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...ranks as one of the oldest American hosta cultivars...many of its foliage traits indicated it descended from 'Fortunei Gigantea'."
