This is one
of those cases where there are two hostas with the
same name. One is registered and,
therefore, the "official" version of H. 'Surf's
while the other is a non-registered plant and needs
to be renamed to avoid further confusion.
This medium size (18
inches high by 36 inches wide) cultivar which is a
tissue culture sport of H. 'Lakeside
Beach Captain' was registered by
Mark Zilis of Illinois in 2009. Its foliage is golden yellow and is lightly
corrugated with a glaucous bloom on top. Pale lavender,
tubular flowers bloom from July into August.
Database also sites a cultivar of this name from
Kent Terpening of New York. It is a fast growing, semi-vase
shaped, medium to large size hosta with blue-green
foliage. The leaves have wavy margins and white backs.
