Hosta 'Valley's Tonkatsu'

This fast growing, medium size (13 inches high by 19 inches wide) hybrid of H. 'Goldbrook Grebe' × H. 'Katsuragawa Beni' was registered by Jeroen Linneman of the Netherlands in 2009. It has medium green foliage that is ovate, slightly wavy, heavily rippled and slightly shiny on top. Tubular flowers bloom from mid-July into August on scapes up to 16 inches tall.

According to the registration materials: "...great wavy margins on the leaves..."

Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled, A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term beni as red or rouge and the the term -gawa or -kawa as river.
