This secondary consideration may be high on the list of some gardeners but for general landscape considerations, it is not a "make or break" factor. It is nice to place some of this type of hosta near a screened porch, walkway, patio or deck so they can be enjoyed.

The most common species of hostas with fragrance is Hosta plantaginea. Most, if not all, of the fragrant hosta cultivars have this plant in its background somewhere through either cross breeding with another plant or from a sport of the species.
