The goal of the NPSNV is to preserve the plants of our area while have a fun time and making new friends. As the saying goes, we work hard and we play hard! If this is your philosophy on life and you love native plants, come to one of our meetings or events and give us a look. More about us...

Meetings - The Society meets every third Thursday of the month at the fire station in the Village of Weed. Membership in the society is open to any adult interested in preserving our plant environment. Annual dues are $10.00.

What is a Native Plant?  It sounds so simple but the concept of a native plant is more complicated than one might think. Some groups only give that designation to a plant for which there is archeological evidence that it existed in the area prior to the arrival of European settlers on this continent. Other groups insist that the plants must have grown here before the first humans arrived in pre-historic time. This complicates the issue since the debate over when that occurred is still on-going.

NPSNV has adopted the policy that native plants shall consist of those plants that were growing here prior to the time the first Europeans arrived in 1492 when Columbus sailed the ocean blue. Even though many of the later imports have adapted quite well to living under the existing conditions prevalent here, they are genotypically part of another continent's  background.

Become Active With Us!  We are an active organization and our members are involved in many project aimed at saving our remaining native plants and encouraging the use of natives in the home landscape. Our committees have been setup to get every member involved and out into the community. Learn more about our committees...
