Demonstration Pond at the
Pond and Aquatic Plant Society
Research Park

The Pond and Aquatic Plant Society of Eden has been active in creating and maintaining an interest in backyard ponds since 1912. We are the oldest pond society in North America with over 23,478 members in all 50 states. We have regional organizations that meet each winter with major activities and educational opportunities for members.

We are the most active pond group in the world with research and funding activities across North America. Our members have been leaders in hybridizing aquatic plants and our favorite fish, the koi.

Our Research Park has the most extensive ponds devoted to research on aquatic plants and fish in the Western World. It is surpassed only by the Kojichi Ponds outside of Tokyo, Japan. We currently employ four scientists who work in the areas of aquatic botany and fisheries genetics. Dr. Chubunken has patented three subspecies of koi in his 47 years of work at our facility. Mrs. Nymphae has been the breeder of four new colors in hybrid waterlilies.

Membership in our organization is open to anyone interested in water gardening. You must be at least 21 years of age and have a pond with a capacity of at least 2,500 gallons. Prior to accepting you into membership, representatives of our society will visit your home and make a thorough inspection of your ponds. We accept only the best!
