Ellie May Klampett in the old
Beverly Hillbillies television show used to go swimming in the "cement
pond." Well, that is also an option for the fish in your
backyard pond.
Here are the pros and cons of a cement
pond:
|
|
Advantages: |
- They can last a long, long time, if they are
constructed and maintained properly.
- In recent times, flexible forms have been developed
so that the cement pond may be shaped pretty much as you
wish.
- Various color pigments can be mixed into the cement
for special color effects.
|
|
Disadvantages: |
- This is the most expensive type of backyard pond.
- If not constructed properly, a cement pond may be
damaged by the alternate freezing and thawing of the
soil around it during the winter months. Cracks can be
very expensive to fix.
- Although there is some flexibility in shape, it is
not as free wheeling as a flexible liner.
