These products are composed of mixtures of chemicals that may be synthesized in factories or be created by treating naturally occurring minerals and rocks. Inorganic fertilizers tend to be the least expensive per unit of plant nutrients. Also, they tend to be quickly available to plants once they are applied to the soil. Often, they are called "quick release" fertilizers. However, advancements in chemistry have allowed manufacturers to develop inorganic fertilizers that release nutrients more slowly. These products are called "slow release" and tend to be more costly.
