William Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway in 1582, her family home was in the hamlet of Shottery barely a mile from the center of Stratford-upon-Avon. The Hathaway home was a substantial twelve roomed Elizabethan farmhouse, the lower part was built in the early 1460's and subsequently extended in about 1623. The cottage remained in the Hathaway family until 1892, when it was bought along with some furnishings by the Birthplace Trust, who restored it to its original character.

This beautiful little garden is shown at the end of the tour of the childhood home of Shakespeare's wife. I hurried out before the rest of the group to get a good picture sans other people. This picture (slide) was taken in 1978.
