The garden is located just east of the City of Grand Rapids, Michigan. It consists of 132 acres with several features including Sculpture Park, Conservatory, Children's Garden, Michigan's Farm Garden, amphitheater for summer concert events, nature trails and boardwalks.

The facility was established in 1995 under the support of Fred and Lena Meijer founder of the Meijer Thrifty Acres company. It was devoted to both horticulture and to the display of large, outdoor pieces of sculpture.

This is a great garden for all seasons of the year. In the winter, the large conservatory is home to many educational programs and is a great place to visit. Spring through fall, the gardens spread over many acres and explore a large number of types. Be sure to see it if you are in the area.
