This 40 acre facility was started as an arboretum in 1966 by the Iowa State Horticultural Society. It has expanded to 378 acres and now contains over 4,000 woody and herbaceous plants that are adapted to this climate condition.

If you are visiting the Reiman Gardens at Iowa State University, you may want to consider a 20 mile or so drive out into the country to visit the Iowa Arboretum. As with most facilities of this type, it is devoted primarily to woody plant material represented in collections by genus or species. It that is your primary point of interest, take a visit.
