Hosta 'Buffalo Designer Genes'

 

Registered by Dana Zubrik and Milan Zubrikof Záhradníctvo Hosta in the Slovak Republicin 2020, this cultivar is an open-pollinated seedling of H. 'Designer Genes'. It is a small size hosta that grows to about 9 inches in height with a spread of around 12 inches. The broadly ovate leaves are yellow, slightly rippled, slightly corrugated, dull on top and have dark red petioles "held outstretched". Deep purple, bell-shaped flowers bloom from June into July on dark burgundy scapes up to 25 inches tall. It sets viable seeds in purple-green pods.

The registration materials state: "...Nice yellow slightly wrinkled heart-shaped leaves held on strong red petioles.  Tall burgundy scapes with profuse purple flowers...Viridescent eventually, but holds its yellow color most of the season."
