Hosta 'Foxfire Rose Red'

This cultivar from Steve Schulte is possibly a tetraploid sport of H. 'Cherry Berry' and it was registered in 2003. The plants grow into a medium size hosta about 10 inches tall and spread to 30 inches wide. Its elliptic-shaped, smooth textured leaves are of average substance. The light purple flowers on red scapes bloom in mid-July. This cultivar is part of the "Foxfire Series" of hostas.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...significantly different appearance and greater vigor in the garden than 'Cherry Berry'..."

The Hosta Journal, (2006 Vol. 37 No. 2), in an article about flower characteristics stated that this cultivar has "...intense red-colored petioles; flower is deep purple with white margins..."
