This cultivar was originated by Handy Hatfield of Ohio but Dr. Dick and Jane Ward, also of Ohio registered this sport of H. 'Zounds' in 1997. It forms a large size (24 inches high) mound of moderately corrugated, somewhat unruly foliage with thick substance. The plant has very pale lavender flowers from late June into July.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "This plant mutated out of the same 'Zounds' clump as 'Dick Ward', the gold-centered, green-margined sport. Neither are subject to spring desiccation burn and make good substitutes in the landscape for H. 'Sieboldiana'-types that burn."
