Hosta 'Merry Christmas'

This tissue culture sport of H. 'White Christmas' was registered by Mark Zilis of Illinois in 2003. A medium size plant, it grows to around 15 inches high with a spread of about 28 inches. The dark green foliage has a pale yellow medial (center) variegation when it emerges in the spring. As the season progresses, the center becomes greener and the green edge becomes yellow to creamy white. It bears pale lavender flowers in July.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "Like a few sports of 'Striptease', 'Merry Christmas' has the unusual habit of reversing its foliage colors during the season...it has proven difficult to grow...often dying before reaching maturity and is not a commercially viable plant."
