Hosta 'Rare Breed'

Originated by Ron Livingston of Michigan and registered on his behalf by Registrar, Gayle Hatley Alley for The American Hosta Society in 2019, this cultivar is a hybrid of an unnamed seedling × H. 'Tenryu'. It is a fast growing, upright hosta with greyish olive (NN137B RHS Colour Chart) foliage that has creamy white medial (center) variegation. The leaves are shiny on top, ovate and relatively flat overall. There is a third, medium green, color between the center and the outer margin. White flowers with pale lavender stripes bloom from late June into July on scapes 30 to 35 inches tall. It sets seeds but their viability was not known at the time of registration.

The registration materials state: "...Tri-color leaves of great substance on a vigorous upright plant."
