Hosta 'Verna Jean'

The result of self-pollination of H. 'Flamboyant', this cultivar has a chartreuse center with a thin, cream colored margin. It was registered by Wm and Eleanor Lachman of Massachusetts in 1990 as a medium size plant about 8 inches high by 16 inches wide. The flowers bloom in July on scapes about 14 inches tall. They are sterile and do not set seeds. This hosta has marginal variegation with the yellow edges turning ivory white as the summer progresses.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), it is "...like a mini-'Shade Fanfare'."

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states: "Easily exceeds its registered dimensions...Use as an edging, ground cover, or rock garden plant...Like a mini H. 'Shade Fanfare' which is the stable sport of H. 'Flamboyant'.
