This form of the species is found in Japan and is a medium size (15 inches high) plant with elliptical leaves covered with an intense waxy white  bloom on the bottom side. Near white flowers bloom in dense clusters from August into September.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "This form of H. kikutii is known for the intense white bloom that coats the underside of the leaf blade. As a garden plant, it is much more than that. The general look of the plant is smooth, making it an excellent choice as either a specimen plant or ground cover."

Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled, A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term urajiro as white-backed or white underside.
