Dianthus barbatus Sweet William Southern Europe, Russia and China   10-20 inches Dense cluster of up to 30 at the top of the stems each flower with five petals and serrated edges. Flowers are not scented   Green to glaucous blue-green tapered leaves     var. barbatus - Leaves broader, up to 2 cm broad. var. asiaticus - from Northeastern Asia. Leaves slender, not over ¼ inch wide   Sweet William is a biennial but it selfsows to be a constant in the garden.
