Bugloss - Alkanet

This is a genus of 35 species with yellow or blue flowers. It features a closed throat of the corolla as evidenced by the scales or hairy appendages at the top of the throat. The genus name is from the Greek for "cosmetic paint" since some of the plants are used to produce rouge.
