This genus with over 60 species is in the Aster Family. It has a bunch of common names including beggarticks, black jack, burr marigolds, cobbler's pegs, Spanish needles, stickseeds, tickseeds and tickseed sunflowers. Many of those names refer to the fruits which have bristles and barbs.
