Honeylocust

Of the species in this genus, only one, G. triacanthos is an important landscape tree. The species has long, sharp throns in the wild but the discovery of the botanical variety called, inermis, i.e. thornless, made this small leafed tree a great addition to horticulture.

Named for Johann Gleditsch.
