This is another genus where the taxonomists are not in total agreement. Depending on the reference, there are between 100 and 334 species in this genus. Many members of the genus vary only slightly from the true oaks in the genus, Quercus. Trees in Lithocarpus are evergreen and have leathery leaves and their nut is very similar to the acorn.
