This is a genus that has been undergoing significant change in the past few decades. The genus, Smilacina, which includes the False Solomon's Seals has been eliminated and combined here. Also, they have been shifted from the Liliaceae Family to the Asparagaceae Family. Maianthemum now includes about 40 species which are native to a wide area including North America, Europe and Asia.
